GUILLERMO MENA

Guillermo Mena was born in Los Cóndores, Córdoba, Argentina, in 1986. As an artist, he explores expanded drawing, working in installation, performance, and moving images. With a displaced and itinerant practice, his production focuses on exploring atmospheric and geological phenomena as determinants of his own poetic identity and of a fragile and constantly transforming territory. He holds a degree in Visual Arts from the Libero Pierini School of Fine Arts in Río Cuarto (2011) and a degree in Graphic Design from the Siglo 21 University of Córdoba (2008).

Mena has held solo exhibitions in galleries and museums throughout the country, highlighting the Emilio Caraffa Museum (2016), the Genaro Pérez Museum of Fine Arts (2019), Gachi Prieto Gallery in Buenos Aires (2021), and the René Bruseau Museum in Resistencia, Chaco (2019). Recently, he had a solo exhibition at the Jewett Gallery of Wellesley College in Massachusetts, United States (2021), and his work was presented at Aussenwelt Gallery (Montreal, Quebec) and Azur Gallery (Madrid, Spain). He has received the National Arts Fund granted by the Government of Argentina on four occasions.

Over recent years, Guillermo Mena has participated in international residencies, including the SIM Residency in Reykjavik, Iceland (2022); Amanei in the Aeolian Islands, Italy (2022); R.A.R.O in Barcelona, Spain (2022); Proyecto ACE in Buenos Aires, Argentina (2021), and Banff Center for the Arts and Creativity in Canada (2020).

He works as an animator and concept artist in film projects, highlighting works such as 4 Feet High (Official Selection at the Sundance Film Festival 2021, La Biennale de Venezia) and Fire Through Dry Grass (New York, USA).

Currently, Guillermo Mena lives and works in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
